THE CANCER COUNCIL CALLS FOR URGANT ACTION TO VAPING EPIDEMIC

DATE: 21 October 2024

According to recent research, e-cigarette usage is on the rise, particularly among young Australians, which has Cancer Council Victoria alarmed. Although vaping is sometimes viewed as a "safe" substitute for smoking, it really contains nicotine and other dangerous substances that can cause addiction as well as major health problems, such as lung damage."Vaping is a growing public health crisis," stated Todd Harper, Victorian Cancer Council CEO. "We need to educate young people about the real dangers and push for stronger regulations to protect them."The Council is starting a public awareness campaign that will target teens, parents, and schools.

The campaign will include:- Resources for teaching schools about the dangers of vaping.- efforts on social media that draw attention to the risks of vaping.- support for stricter regulations, such as those that limit e-cigarette sales and promotion.Cancer Council Victoria is calling on the government to take steps to restrict access to vaping goods, particularly for children, and to outlaw flavours that appeal to young people.
